Using Clicker Writer with Google Classroom

Using Clicker Writer with Google Classroom

During my teaching days, I loved using Google Classroom. It makes giving out work electronically smooth, especially when you have designed several personalised scaffolds for different pupils or groups within the class.

Recent updates to Clicker Writer have made our integration with Google Drive and Google Classroom even smoother. My colleague Siân has designed this video tutorial to help you every step of the way. You’ll notice it includes both the teacher view and the student view.

Using Google Classroom for easy resource sharing

With my classes, I often had several different Clicker Sets assigned to different children, each personalised to their specific support needs. When I was explaining this to my new colleagues here at Crick Software, I used some of our Great Fire of London resources, available on LearningGrids, as an example.

For a group of children building up their understanding of sentences, I assigned this Sentence Set:

I then had a more experienced group of writers explore sentence structures further using this Connect Set:

For many of the writers in my class, a Word Bank was useful. It included all the rich vocabulary we had been building up over the last few weeks and let them add it quickly to their writing.

Another group needed a bit more of a stretch, so I created a bank of phrases that would be useful for them to extend their sentences.

For a child working on a personalised curriculum, the goal was for them to understand the concept of the past being different from today. This Sentence Set from LearningGrids helped them demonstrate their understanding with simple sentences.

I could easily download these scaffolds from LearningGrids, adapt them where necessary to suit my learners, and then assign them to exactly the children who needed the support using Google Classroom. The power of Clicker’s personalised learning doubled!
