App users may have noticed another improvement to Clicker Writer as the Picturize feature, a favourite among Clicker Desktop users, is now available on iPad and Chromebook!

So here's what Picturize looks like in Clicker Writer...

Picturize your Document

I would recommend using Picturize for the first time with an existing Clicker Document. Open it in Clicker Writer, click ‘Picturize’ in the Picture menu, and see how relevant images are instantly inserted into your writing. This is the magic of Picturize!

Add pictures instantly as you type

A pupil I worked with last year loved this feature within Clicker Desktop.  He joined the school in the middle of year 5 and was in a very early stage of language development - so assessing his understanding was really tricky.  We quickly learnt that his passion was transport – trains, bikes, lorries – anything with wheels! After introducing him to some Clicker Sets from LearningGrids, such as Transport Then and Now, he began typing his favourite vehicles into the Document independently.  When the teaching assistant turned on ‘Picturize words as I type', his face transformed!

To experience this in Clicker Writer, turn on ‘Picturize words as I type’ in the Pictures tab of Settings.

Picturize the Predictor and Spell Check

When discussing Clicker with a former colleague of mine from Tower Hamlets, she explained how much she loved the independence and confidence pupils gained from using Clicker’s Spell Check and Predictor.  Other spell checkers and word predictors are useful if you are already quite accurate with your spelling, but for learners who are further off, Clicker’s intelligent Spell Check and Predictor are a game changer.  Try typing ‘sykling’ (instead of cycling) into an alternative word processor and compare your results with Clicker. The extended reach of Clicker's phonetic spell checker allows pupils to see and correct more of their mistakes, and the ability to listen back to the options means they are more likely to select the right word for the job (instead of assuming the first suggestion is correct!).

With Picturize, we’ve added another support, giving pupils a clear visual indicator that they have found the word they are looking for. In the settings dialogue, Picturize the Spell Check and Predictor to give the user picture support to select correct spellings and use the Predictor more effectively.

Add pictures to your Clicker Sets

Picturize can also be used in Clicker Sets. Long-time users will already be familiar with the Crick Picture Library, which features over 4,500 high-quality images.

Now with this latest update, users can harness the power of the picture library in an instant! When editing your Clicker Sets, select the 'Picture' icon and then select 'Picturize' to instantly add images to the cells in your set, or add an image to a specific cell by selecting the cell and repeating the same steps.

How to update

All updates are available to current Clicker Writer subscribers.

On Chromebook, the app will update automatically. iPads with automatic updates turned on will see the new features instantly; if not, update Clicker Writer via the App Store.
