Editing LearningGrids resources to support diverse needs

We have recently received a success story that is a great example of how Clicker can be used to support diverse learning needs.

Jackie Rosenkrans, Special Educator at Harford County Public Schools, has been using Clicker to reach students who require different levels of learning support.

The lesson Jackie has shared with us was part of their unit on the Oregon Trail. Jackie used resources available on LearningGrids which she adapted to meet the needs of her students who range in age from 14-21 and are functioning between 12 months and 3rd grade.

“I really enjoy working with Clicker as it has a lot to offer our students. I like that I was able to adapt each grid to meet the needs and ability level of each student, and that I was able to label each resource, so I knew quickly in the lesson who each grid was designed for. I was also able to change the background color to meet the needs of several CVI students.

The students helped to decide what to pack for our trip on the trail and provided their response by using the cells to build their sentence. I also had a few students that were able to use the Connect Set like a Word Bank and type the rest of their response.

One student provided her answers with an eye gaze device, and I selected the cells to add her chosen items for the trip to the document.

Since this lesson, I have also worked collaboratively with another teacher to create an activity in which the class worked collectively to write a summary for their unit on dinosaurs. We also used this activity to gain valuable insights into what each student was able to retain about the topic.

In the past we have not had a lot of adapted options to help our students progress their writing, but the fact that this program is so versatile really helps to reach students on many levels.”

Here is a demonstration of the resources Jackie made to support her students:
